How To Use Herbs to Care for Pets
Our pets, whether they’re domestic animals like cats and dogs, farm animals such as horses and chickens, or our reptile friends like lizards and snakes, are often a big part of our lives, and as responsible pet owners, caring for our animals is often a top priority in our lives.
Caring for our animals is more than providing for their dietary and shelter needs, though. It also involves caring for their health and wellness, including their emotional needs. When it comes to the health of our animals, traditional and holistic veterinarians can help us, but there are things we can do on our own from the comfort of our home (and barn!).
Animal Herbalism
In the past, the Herbal Academy blog has published several articles on how to use herbs for animals including our basic herbal preparations for animals and our Herbs for Animals chart (which is free to download). We’ve talked about how to use turmeric for pets as well as what the best and worst plants for pets are. We’ve discussed itching and skin health in some of our posts, such as the benefits of clay for animal skin and how to make your own herbal pet shampoos and rinses. We’ve even introduced the topic of canine herbalism and how to support your dog after receiving their canine rabies vaccination.
While all of that is a great introduction to animal herbalism, there’s still more to be learned about using herbs safely and effectively for our animals. That’s why we here at the Herbal Academy have teamed up with some amazing herbalists who have experience with animal herbalism, to create a brand new intensive for members of The Herbarium called Herbs for Animals.
Herbs for Animals Intensive
The Herbs for Animals workshop contains two sessions consisting of video and text lessons.
Session one discusses the herbal holistic approach for animals such as cats, dogs, birds, and other varieties of animals, and includes information about dietary considerations, herbs to support animals experiencing common imbalances, and tips on dosing and administering herbs to various animals.
Session two discusses the use of flower essences for the emotional well-being of animals, including what flower essences are, how they are used for emotional support, the situations for which they are particularly suited, and some specific indications when flower essences should be used.
By the end of this workshop, you will have a better understanding of how to safely use herbs and flower essences to support the well-being of your beloved pets.
