DIY Cold and Flu Bombs With Immune-Stimulating Herbs

We are all well aware of the looming cold and flu season that is approaching. That’s the thing about cold season though—you can have things in stock, but you just never know when illness will strike. Oftentimes, when it does, we seem to feel too under the weather to truly take care of ourselves as we should. This recipe will remedy that!

Prepare these Cold & Flu Bombs ahead of time and have them on hand to knock those pesky seasonal threats out! Combining immune-supportive herbs that promote lymph flow like elder (Sambucus canadensis) flower, strong anti-nausea and anti-inflammatory kitchen allies like ginger (Zingiber officinale) rhizome, and supportive nervines to calm and relax a wound-up system like chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla) flower will be just the thing you need in times of illness.

Ginger makes a great potentiator in an herbal blend like this, meaning that it enhances and synergizes the effects of the other herbs, thereby helping them to support the immune and nervous systems for which they have an affinity. It also adds a warming, energizing, and overall stimulating kick to the combination. 

All three herbs in these cold and flu bombs have a reputation for supporting the body’s fever response in a healthy way. Cold and Flu Bombs


These cold and flu bombs combine immune-stimulating, anti-nausea, and anti-inflammatory herbs to support and calm the system in times of illness.

Ingredients

¼ inch organic fresh ginger, peeled (Zingiber officinale)
2 tablespoons elderflower (Sambucus canadensis)
1 tablespoon chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla)
Sliced lemon wedges
2 cups filtered or spring water

Directions
  • Add the peeled, sliced ginger and the elderflower to a pot, along with 2 cups of spring or filtered water. Allow them to simmer covered for 10 minutes.
  • Turn off the heat and add in the chamomile, cover the pot again and allow to steep for an additional 5 minutes.
  • Strain out the herbs and reserve the liquid.
  • Using an ice cube tray or silicone molds like these, place a small lemon wedge in each opening.
  • Lastly, pour the cold and flu tea into the tray and let it freeze.

To Use:

When you are feeling under the weather, simply take a Cold & Flu Bomb out of the freezer and place it in a mug. Pour hot water over it and watch it melt into a delicious and supportive drink.
