Testimonials from Class
This course was put together so incredibly well! Each unit is jammed packed with information that both connects you to the plant world and herbalists past and present. Not to mention how clearly the intensive science side to being an herbalist is presented. This is the kind of information that one really only gains access to via colleges courses. It was such a good decision to enroll because after completing Botany & Wildcrafting I feel so much more enabled and prepared to continue on my herbal journey.
– Melanie Cottle, Botany & Wildcrafting Course Graduate
I definitely recommend this course to anyone who wants a deeper understanding of the technical aspects of plants and plant identification. I’ve worked with plants all my life but I’ve never really stopped and LOOKED at them. Taking this course opened my eyes to the subtle differences between species and the very basic botanical structures that help in identifying different plants. If you want to know more about the green allies growing around you, or the ones you may discover- sign up for this course!
– Jen C., Botany & Wildcrafting Course Graduate
I love this course, it’s a great way to get started in foraging. The information that this course gives you about the plants that you can find in your backyard is wonderful.
– M.B., The Foraging Course Graduate
I would and have recommended this course to several people. I have learned a lot about proper identification of plants, and how to make them into useful mixes to help my family. The layout is simple and easy to follow. I am looking forward to my next class!
– D.H., The Foraging Course Graduate
I would recommend that anyone interested in learning more about the natural world surrounding them take a course like this to appreciate the complex interplay of nature and human wellness! We need each other to support our ongoing harmony and health.

What are the differences between The Foraging Course and Botany & Wildcrafting Course? What do I get by enrolling in both courses?
The Herbal Academy develops each herbal short course to be a unique, comprehensive offering with minimal curriculum overlap from other programs.
The Botany & Wildcrafting Course covers plant identification in depth; while The Foraging Course contains botanical descriptions of the plants highlighted in the course, it doesn’t go into detail about plant ecology, biology, classification, or identification––all of which are covered in the Botany & Wildcrafting Course, along with lessons on creating your own herbarium and learning about plants through botanical illustration. With both courses, you’ll not only have a firm grasp on the 24 plants covered in The Foraging Course, but you will have the tools you need to expand your foraging forays by identifying all of the wild plants around you!
Both the Botany & Wildcrafting Course and The Foraging Course contain herbal preparations tutorials for building your apothecary. However, The Foraging Course also includes specific recipes that highlight edible and herbal wild plants covered in the course.
I’m so busy! Do I have to get started with the course right away and do I have to attend lectures at a certain time?
Our students LOVE that our courses are self-paced. Enjoy your lessons, our videos, and your hands-on experience on your own time – whenever it fits in your schedule. Class will become available to you as soon as you place your order, but you can start whenever you’d like. Your program is activated only when you click the “Start Course” button.
The Summer Foraging & Botany Course Package includes two programs. You can get into both programs right away, take one course before the other (we’d suggest The Foraging Course first), or enroll now for the sale pricing and begin them down the road.
Are the plants covered in the class only in the United States?
Like all of our programs, we design our lessons with an international classroom in mind! The Foraging Course and the Botany & Wildcrafting Course guide students to be able to identify and forage for plant species anywhere in the world. Many of the specific wild plants mentioned do grow world-wide, although some are more common in North America.
Are there any prerequisites for these courses?
Both The Foraging Course and the Botany & Wildcrafting Course are designed for introductory to intermediate level students. Absolute beginners, we’ve got you covered, and experienced foragers and botanical enthusiasts, there’s plenty here for you, too!
I love the Botanical Illustrations Workbook and the Forager’s Pocket Guides. Can I purchase these without the course bundle?
I’m interested in this package, but I’m already taking another program. Will this course remain open?
This discounted price bundle is only available through June 20, 2021. However, we will keep registration open in the individual courses! If you’d like to take advantage of the sale pricing but need to hold off on getting started in class, that’s perfectly fine! Just click “Start Course” when you are ready to begin.
