This course will walk you through the tick life cycle, where they thrive, and how environmental imbalance has contributed to rising tick populations and disease prevalence. We’ll also spend time on prevention, including practical strategies for tick avoidance, safe removal, and early support after exposure.
We’ll explore well-known tick-borne illnesses like Lyme disease and babesiosis, along with those you may be less familiar with, such as alpha-gal syndrome, anaplasmosis, and ehrlichiosis. You’ll gain clarity around disease transmission timelines, co-infections, diagnostic challenges, conventional treatment, and areas of ongoing medical controversy, all presented with the latest research alongside nuance and care. THE HOLISTIC APPROACH FOR TICK-BORNE DISEASES COURSE OUTLINE

LESSON 1: INTRODUCTION TO TICKS AND TICK-BORNE DISEASES
Learn all about common tick species and discover where they’re most likely to hitch a ride on clothes, pets, and people. By the end of this lesson, you’ll understand a tick’s life cycle, tick ecology, why their populations are expanding, all about their bites and post-bite care, along with the basics of tick-borne diseases, co-infections, and the controversy surrounding chronic infection.
BONUS: Register by June 3 and also receive a comprehensive Tick ID + Symptom Checker printable guide.

LESSON 2: PREVENTION AND TICK MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES
With tick-borne illnesses on the rise, out-of-doors experiences may come with a side of trepidation. This lesson is packed with protocols for avoiding tick bites, from staying out of common tick habitats, knowing the best clothes to wear, and topical, safe tick repellent spray recipes. We’ll also dive into lifestyle recommendations, including the importance of a healthy immune system in dealing with tick-borne illnesses.

LESSON 3: TICK-BORNE ALLERGIES
Most people associate tick-borne illnesses with microbial infections, but allergic reactions are another reality of tick bites. Learn everything you need to know about allergic responses to tick saliva, including the difference between localized reactions and a systemic reaction, and their suggested interventions. We’ll discuss Alpha-gal syndrome in depth, including how it presents, how to manage living with this condition, and how to approach tick-borne allergy support holistically.

LESSON 4: TICK-BORNE BACTERIAL INFECTIONS
This lesson focuses on some of the well-known tick-borne diseases like Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever, but it also covers other bacterial infections you may not be as familiar with, including anaplasmosis, ehrlichiosis, Pacific Coast tick fever, Rickettsia parkeri rickettsiosis, southern tick-associated rash illness, tick-borne relapsing fever, and tularemia. You will learn what to expect during the initial immune response for each of these infections and how these tick-borne infections present over time. These conversations present both conventional treatment options and holistic support for tick infections.

LESSON 5: TICK-BORNE PARASITE INFECTIONS
While ticks are external parasites to their hosts, they can also transmit internal parasites to humans and animals. Learn all about babesiosis, which is the third most common tick-borne disease in the United States, including clinical presentation and conventional treatment. This lesson includes a video that shares more about this parasitic infection from a naturopathic physician’s perspective, and which herbs can provide support to the organ systems that are most affected.

LESSON 6: TICK-BORNE VIRAL INFECTIONS
It’s possible you haven’t heard much about tick-borne viral infections, especially compared to Lyme disease and the other bacterial infections covered in Lesson 4. There are several viruses that can be transmitted by ticks and this lesson dives into signs and symptoms of Colorado tick fever virus, Bourbon virus, Heartland virus, Powassan virus, and Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever virus, along with conventional treatments and suggestions for herbal support.

LESSON 7: LIVING WITH TICKS AND TICK-BORNE ILLNESS
For some of us, ticks and tick-borne illnesses have been a consideration for our entire lives. For others, this is a relatively new threat to our wellbeing that we need to adapt to. In this lesson, we’ll address the concerns that come along with sharing the great outdoors with ticks, while alleviating fear through education and preparedness. We’ll also cover what it can be like living with a tick-borne disease, how to use herbs for nervous system support, and the different kinds of community and practitioner support available.
