SESSION 1: EMULSIFIERS AND PRESERVATIVES IN BOTANICAL SKIN CARE PRODUCTS
Gain an understanding of why we need emulsifiers and preservatives in order to keep creams, lotions, and other emulsions stable and safe for long-term use. We’ll give you an invaluable comparison of some of the most common natural emulsifiers and preservatives on the market, and some tips on calculating the amount of these ingredients to add to your products.
This session features Rachel Pontillo, M.Msc, FDN-P, CIHC, LE, a respected holistic skin care innovator, herbalist, and product maker for a video presentation as she shares about her experience using emulsifiers and preservatives to make shelf-stable botanical skin care products with a longer shelf life. She busts some of the myths about preserving herbal products and provides tips on finding the right emulsifiers and preservatives for your products.
By the end of this first part, you’ll have a good understanding of natural emulsifiers and preservatives that are not typically found in DIY herbal skin care formulas and can be used to create shelf-stable products that have a longer shelf life.
SESSION 2: TUTORIALS, RECIPES, AND SKIN-HAPPY HERBAL INGREDIENTS
This session is all about application! Head into the skin care laboratory and start making skin care formulations with your newfound understanding of emulsifiers and preservatives! In this session, we’ll get you started with basic herbal preparation tutorials and some tried and tested emulsion recipes along with inspiration for creating your own customized variations.
This session will have you creating radiant, nourishing topical skin care recipes using some of our favorite herbal allies. Plant profiles are also shared for the herbs incorporated into these starter recipes so you can expand your herbal repertoire!
