French Apple Cinnamon Tea

This French Apple Cinnamon Tea recipe calls for cinnamon, apples, and honey, providing a little crispness with a dash of sweetness and a splash of warmth. Sure sounds like autumn in a cup to me!

The wholesome nutrients in apples include beta-carotene, vitamins C and B, calcium, phosphorus, boron, polyphenols, and pectin (Mars, 2004). Because apples tend to be cooling, you can add warming spices, such as cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum), ginger (Zingiber officinale), and cloves (Syzygium aromaticum) to counter the cooling property (McIntyre, 2002). Apple cinnamon tea makes for a nutritious, flavorful fall beverage.

French Apple Cinnamon Tea

A great way to use leftover pie apples or use up apples before they turn, apple tea is a sweet, warm, and exquisite little treat. This simple, delicious tea is from Drink To Your Health by herbalist Anne McIntyre. Yield: 2-4 servings.

Ingredients
  • 4 sliced organic apples
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons locally sourced honey
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum) bark
Directions
  • Wash, peel, and slice apples and place in a large pot on the stovetop.
  • Pour two cups of water (more if needed to completely cover apples) into the pot.
  • Simmer the apples and water together over low heat until the apples are soft.
  • Carefully remove from heat.
  • Pass through a strainer to separate liquid from the apple solids.
  • Add the honey and cinnamon to the remaining liquid and stir well.
  • Sit back and enjoy while it’s still warm and steaming.

Sometimes we have a tendency to over-complicate recipes and ingredients. This French Apple Cinnamon tea is a simple, crisp way to appreciate nature’s bounty without overthinking the details.
