Flowers For The Home
Flowers in the foyer, fresh lemons in the kitchen and plants, well…everywhere else!
They say that the kitchen is the heart of the home and I wouldn’t disagree with that. We love hanging out in the kitchen. It is the place where we nourish ourselves, enjoy the company of family and friends and spend time together either cooking or creating any number of projects. We are surrounded by creature comforts. Whistling tea pots, warm ovens and lovely scents of fresh and prepared foods. Have you ever found yourself in a dream state wondering back to your mother’s kitchen just from the scent of cinnamon or home baked bread? Well that’s the magic of kitchens!
Kitchens are also a place where things are alive. Fruit bowls, banana clusters, fresh lemons, baskets of potatoes and perhaps potted basil or rosemary near the window. The well worn, welcoming door to the kitchen where friends and neighbors enter, the shoes on the mat slipped off feet coming home, and the dog curled up near the stove. It is this energy and warmth pulsating through the air that truly makes our kitchens a very special part of our homes.
Fresh flowers in any room can bring delight to our senses. Roses in the winter, tulips in the spring, daisies in the summer and mums in the fall.
Arranging a bowl of flowers in the morning can give a sense of quiet in a crowded day like writing a poem or saying a prayer.
Often times we forgo getting the little bunch of flowers that we eye in the shop or market. It seems a luxury and an unnecessary expense but like food flowers nourish us. Flowers are such a simple, easy addition to our rooms yet quite often forgotten. To add romance, warmth and even surprise bring that bundle of flowers home… it is food for the soul and joy for the home.
