Log In & Class Preparation Questions
Before you get started, watch this quick tutorial to learn how to use your Student Dashboard!
We released a Student Dashboard update on October 18, 2018. You can learn more about these changes here.
How should I prepare for class?
In order to prepare for class we highly recommend obtaining copies of at least three herbal books to be used as additional resources in your studies. As part of our programs, we would like you to begin or build up your personal materia medica. Because of the variable nature of herbal information, you’ll want to cross-reference your research against three different sources, at the very least.
The purchase of any additional books is not mandatory, and you can complete your program utilizing course materials only. If you do not wish to purchase materials, your local library will have herbal books on hand. Even Google books has some herbal textbooks available for free.

Herbs
From time to time, we may recommend various projects that require loose herbs. While these projects are optional, we believe that nothing can teach you more about herbs than working with them directly, so we hope you will participate if you are able. Many natural food stores and co-ops carry herbs at inexpensive bulk rates. If no resources exist near you, we suggest looking online to obtain herbs.
Some of our favorite online herbal shops are:
To prepare for your studies, pick up a few of these herbs that interest you! This is a narrowed down version of some of the more popular herbs that we discuss in our online programs. I was enrolled on the Old HANE Website. Do I need to retake my programs on the New Academy Website?
Starting October 2015, we launched our new and improved Student Platform on this, our new website, theherbalacademy.com. We notified all of our students at that time that we would honor all expiration dates (9 months for the Introductory Course and 12 months for the Intermediate Course) to fulfill our agreement. Students who signed up for their classes on the old website were provided time to finish their courses before we closed it down AND they received a complimentary upgrade to this, our new website. If you missed these announcements and you wish to finish your course here on the new site, you will need to start the program over as the website does not allow for a transfer of progress. When you click on the “start” course button to begin your time access, this starts your studies from the beginning of the program, and you will have to retake your quizzes.
Printing Questions
How do I download and print the lessons?
Please find the Download PDF option at the top of the righthand sidebar of each unit.
How do I download and print the charts from class?
Look for PDF buttons throughout each of the courses to download and print charts.
I'm having difficulties printing. What can I do?
Charts and Units:
If you have troubles printing a chart or unit, try downloading the image/PDF first using our Download Buttons. Save your PDF and then print from your computer. Fix your settings to print at 100% scale in order to keep the copy the correct size.
Ebooks and Flipbooks:
Each person’s printing settings will be a bit different and there are several ways to go about printing. Initially, we intended for our flip books to be printed either by a shop to be bound or to be printed and added to a binder. One option is to print your pages individually and add to a binder with clear sleeves. This is the easiest way to make your copy into a book! The print settings are easy, just print as normal and then add your pages in the order that makes sense to you. You can have two sheets in each sleeve.
If you choose to print the book and want pages front and back, simply print starting with page 2. Depending on your printer, you can either choose the front and back option for printing or the odd pages/even pages for printing.
If you want to view facing pages on one sheet, then select the 2 pages per sheet option and print pages 2 through xx. Good luck!
Questions About Quizzes
I'm taking the quiz but can only find answers for a few of the questions even though I have read through all of my lessons. Should I look them up online? Can you help?
All answers for the quizzes are within all of the lessons in the entire unit. Study your notes and try to retake the quiz until you pass!
I took the quiz, so why can't I move on to the next unit?
You must score 80% on each quiz in order to move on. We recommend you take an appropriate amount of time to study up, and really understand the material. If you didn’t get it the first time, don’t worry, you can try again until you get it right! Make sure you’re giving your programs the time required to study. Don’t just speed through the lessons. There is a ton of information in each unit, so take your time, go slow, and make sure you’ve got all of it. Each unit builds the foundation that the rest of your herbal journey rests upon, so let’s make sure you have a rock solid foundation under you.
