Regrowing Your Kitchen Greens

Posted By

Did you know you can extend the shelf life of your greens by simply putting them in water? It’s true; I’ve done it! I picked up green onions at the grocery store two weeks ago. It was sad seeing them go so quickly. So I experimented with a jar of water and sunlight and regrew my onions four times worth since then!

Let your greens grow! You will be amazed at how quickly your water garden grows. I could see my onions sprout in only one day. In a seven day period, I had already taken multiple cuts of the green onion. Here is the 10 day picture.

The quick way to regrow your kitchen scraps is by placing whatever green you desire into a bowl or cup of water. However, if you really want to extend the life of these delicious greens, transfer your water garden right into the dirt. You will enjoy watching them grow as well as the harvest.

And don’t stop at green onions!

Regrow romaine lettuce, cabbage, bok choi and celery. Simply cut the stalks off like you would normally and plant the remainder in your water garden. Grow these vegetables in shallow bowls.
