Biography

Sherilyn has always been fascinated by the natural world and the miraculous complexities of ecological systems. She loves living in Fairbanks, Alaska, where she can regularly see moose, fox, lynx, coyote, and other wonderful creatures in her neighborhood. With her academic background in biology and science education, it was natural that phytotherapy would become an important part of her life after she retired from a 24-year career as a K-12 public school teacher. She completed the clinical level Scholars Program at Aromahead Institute and is a professional member of the National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy.
She shares her love of essential oils with her family, including her husband, three grown children, and three grandchildren, and also uses them also to help care for her furry family members: a cat, a dog, and two horses. Her clinical aromatherapy practice, Golden Heart Essentials, includes consulting and providing education for the Fairbanks hospice program, where essential oils help patients, families, and staff members cope with the tough challenges they face.
Sherilyn writes and edits articles for the Herbal Academy blog and Advanced Course. In her personal studies she continues to seek out the best ways to combine herbs and essential oils to support a holistic approach to wellness. Sherilyn’s lifelong passions for learning and sharing continue to take her down new, exciting paths every day.
