Biography
Denise is an herbalist and gardener currently living on Wabanaki land,
now known as Maine, where she teaches and tends the garden at a public
nature center, privately gardens for folks in her community, and grows
an abundance of medicinal plants for sale and various mutual aid
projects.
A pivotal point in Denise’s herbal journey was an internship at The
United Plant Savers Center for Medicinal Plant Conservation in 2011.
It was the first time she was fully immersed in the world of medicinal
plants, in their native habitat, and it inspired her to pursue a deep
relationship tending to these green allies even though she was living
in New York CIty at the time. She has studied with teachers across the
US as well as tended plants at Stone Barns Center for Food and
Agriculture, Farmacy Herbs in Rhode Island and Avena Botanicals in
Maine. As an artist and writer she draws inspiration from the plants
and finds joy in sharing about them in many different ways.
