Biography
Sara Rooney, BSc (Hons) Ba (Hons) is a member of the National Institute of Medical Herbalists. She is a qualified Medical Herbalist and passionate advocate of botanical medicine.
Her interest in medicinal plants stems from working on an Amazonian rainforest reserve in Ecuador after completing a degree in Anthropology and Spanish. She assisted the local Shaman in the propagation of medicinal plants from the rainforest and observed the remarkable medicinal qualities of plants used in a community with little access to Western drugs.
Sara published research on Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and herbal medicine in the internationally acclaimed Journal of Herbal Medicine by Elsevier, ‘Phytotherapy for Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome: A review of the literature and evaluation of practitioners’ experiences’. She has written on numerous topics including adrenal health and natural menopausal support. Sara has a special interest in utilizing herbs to support the body to correct hormonal imbalance, women’s health, adrenal fatigue and natural fertility support.
Sara strives to find the root cause of a person’s illness rather than just purely addressing their symptoms. She is a firm advocate of integrated health and has completed training in functional nutrition with the Institute of Functional Medicine. Sara’s empathetic and positive outlook inspires patients to make natural changes for life. Sara believes in finding health solutions unique to the individual, and that inspiration and education are crucial for good nutrition and healthy lifestyle choices.
Sara is an also an experienced integrated retreat manger working on retreats both in the UK and Europe. She currently runs women’s well-being retreats focusing on maintaining hormonal balance and empowering women through integrated women’s health. She currently divides her time between the UK and Central Portugal where she is constantly inspired by the surrounding beautiful forests, lakes and abundant nature.
Sara offers herbal consultations at her clinics in the UK and online natural health consultations. She also writes, consults and advises on herbal medicines and delivers talks and workshops in the UK and Portugal.
