Biography

Meagan Visser is Herbal Academy’s Continuing Education Program Director. As a Registered Nurse turned herbalist, she recognizes the gap that exists in Western healthcare between herbal and modern medicine, and she desires to bridge that gap by educating healthcare professionals so they better understand the herbs their patients use and feel more confident working with them.

Meagan holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN) from East Tennessee State University, graduated magna cum laude, and was accepted into the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. She worked in both the Cardiac Stress Lab and Emergency Department and held several critical care nursing certifications during her nursing career.

She dove into natural living and herbalism after the birth of her first child and never looked back. Living in a rural area with no access to local herbalists or herbal schools, she relied on online courses for her beginner herbal studies, learning from several Western herbalists including Rosemary Gladstar, jim mcdonald, 7Song, Rosalee de la Foret, Shoshanna Easling, and Larken Bunce. Since then she has graduated from Herbal Academy and is currently a student at the School of Evolutionary Herbalism with Sajah Popham.

In addition to overseeing Herbal Academy’s Continuing Education Program, Meagan also serves as a Staff Herbalist working across multiple departments, such as course development, marketing, and student communities. You’ll often find her writing and editing course lessons, creating videos, responding to student questions, and occasionally leading marketing campaigns.

Meagan resides in the Appalachian Highlands of East Tennessee with her husband, four sons, and pets. She is a homeschool mom, practices herbalism through a seasonal lens, and has been sharing her journey on her blog, Growing Up Herbal, for the past 14 years.
