Herbal Hot Toddy Mocktail Recipe

While traditional hot toddy recipes feature dark liquor like rum, whiskey, or bourbon, you can still get the same warm, cozy effects with a non-alcoholic version! This herbal hot toddy mocktail gives you the spiced flavors of our herbal hot toddy cocktail recipe, but because it’s alcohol-free, you can drink it throughout the day without worry.

Ingredients
1 teaspoon rooibos tea leaves (or one tea bag)
1 teaspoon dried licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra) root
1 cinnamon (Cinnamomum spp.) stick
1 to 2 clove (Syzygium aromaticum) buds
Juice of 1⁄2 lemon
2 cups water
Slice of lemon, to serve
Directions
  • Add all ingredients except the lemon slice to a heavy-bottomed saucepan and bring the mixture to a boil over high heat.
  • Immediately lower the heat and continue to simmer with the lid on for 10 minutes.
  • Strain into a heat-proof mug or cup and add the lemon slice. If you wish, you can also transfer the cinnamon stick to continue steeping.
